Beter than a piggy bank

April 11, 2012

What would you do if you had every necessary resource available to do what you felt called to do?  Whether it was a direct ministry or a community service, or perhaps you just want to make your corner of the world a better place.

Well as far as Kingdom work is concerned  you have an unlimited budget; anything you want, you can get.  Provided that you are trying to do the work of growing the Kingdom.

How can I make such a silly statement?  Take a look at the two passages below, and then think about them in the context of your vision; or better God’s vision for you.

“I always thank my God for you (I think this is a great start!) because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.  For in him you have been enriched in every way (necessary)—with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge—God thus confirming our testimony about Christ among you.  Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.”  (I Corinthians 1:4-8)  Lackingnothing?

And then there is this one.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.  (Ephesians 1:3)

What we need to accomplish life-changing, soul-rocking, invite-your-friends ministry is not the coolest building in the county, not the best in tech, (and tech support) not the most charisma, character and creativity this side of Disney.  All of those things help, they might even give us the appearance of a world-class ministry.   But the things we really and truly need don’t come from a church council or our benevolent buddies.  What we need comes from the Holy Spirit, and it has already been given to us.

We have been enriched in every way, (Read those passages again if you don’t believe me.) so we are lacking in nothing, there is no spiritual gift that we need that we do not have.  We have been blessed in and from the heavenly realm with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

Not only have we been blessed with every spiritual gift and blessing necessary to do the task, we have been hand-picked by God to accomplish the tasks set before us.  And he does not pick the leftovers.

The Trinity gives us everything we need to accomplish the task set before us.   As you prepare for the next time you are scheduled to change the world, keep in mind that you are lacking in nothing that you need to accomplish what you have been called to do…which is to love with the love of God, for the glory of God.

I am thankful for your presence in my life Pastor Tim. I was just, yesterday, questioning this very topic. Doubting myself, feeling depressed at my lack of financial resources to get where I wanna be…. Its not about what I want…. So the one and only time I have read your blog it is this!! Just what I needed at yhis very moment. You serve God well my friend.
