An important reminder

December 22, 2010

John `1: 1-5   “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.   He was with God in the beginning.  Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.  In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.   The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

Sometimes, as followers of The Light, we get discouraged.  There is still a lot of darkness in the world.  There are still many people who chose to follow the darkness.  At Christmas we get frustrated with everything  from the over-commercialization of our favorite celebration to the outright celebration of something other than Christ.  But I am reminded that this passages does not say that the light destroyed the darkness, it does not say that the Light removed the darkness.  Jesus was the light to all mankind, but just as with a flashlight, it is up to the individual to use the light, to choose the Light, to walk in the light.

People still choose darkness.  We do not have to.  But I think it is even more critical for those of us who have chosen the Light to not get discouraged -The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.  The story is not over yet, and regardless of how many choose darkness, the darkness has not, and will not overcome the light.

Keep shining, keep reflecting, keep praying.  Remember the light will continue to shine in the darkness, and it will bring blessed hope to some who have realized their mistake.  My friends and yours may be groping in the darkness, looking for the light.  Keep reflecting His light.
