Come and Worship

December 17, 2010

Angels from the realms of glory for some reason does not get the “air play” of many other Christmas carols and songs.  But it only take as long as it takes to read or listen to it, and my heart takes on an attitude of worship.  I hope it does the same for you.

The author of Angels From the Realms of Glory was Irishman Montgomery, son of missionaries  Written in 1816, the music was composed by Henry Smart.(http://www.carols.org.uk/angels_from_the_realms_of_glory.htm)   The song looks at The Story from several different perspectives.  Maybe you are not an angel, or shepherd or wise man (sage), or perhaps you are.  But quite possibly you are a saint (one saved by Grace because of this Wonderful Event.)  At any rate, try to listen to the song from the perspective of those to whom the song addresses, and see how it makes you feel.

Angels from the realms of glory,  Wing your flight o’er all the earth;
Ye who sang creation’s story,  Now proclaim Messiah’s birth:
Come and worship,  Come and worship, Worship Christ, the newborn King!

Shepherds, in the fields abiding, Watching o’er your flocks by night,
God with man is now residing, Yonder shines the infant Light;
Come and worship, Come and worship, Worship Christ, the newborn King!

Sages, leave your contemplations, Brighter visions beam afar;
Seek the great desire of nations, Ye have seen His natal star;
Come and worship, Come and worship, Worship Christ, the newborn King!

Saints before the altar bending, Watching long in hope and fear,
Suddenly the Lord, descending, In His temple shall appear:
Come and worship, Come and worship, Worship Christ, the newborn King!

Regardless of where you are when you start listening, I hope the Call of the song reaches you:  Come and Worship!
