The power of The Name

August 27, 2010

So this is how Jesus begins his prayer for his closest friends.

“I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. 10All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. 11I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name—the name you gave me—so that they may be one as we are one.”   (John 17:9-11)

Wow!  Protect them by the power of your name. I have probably read this passage hundreds of times, and it seems every time I do the Spirit speaks to me in a new way.  Now when I pray for protection, whether it be soldiers or surgeons, friends or family, police or politician, I will pray this prayer.Father,  protect them by the power of your name!”

What could offer better protection?  Nothing on earth or Heaven, Nothing in Hell.  The power of His name is all the protection we will ever need.

Now I understand that almost every one of the disciples met with an early, cruel death.  I may too.  But I will be surrounded, as they were, with the protective covering of the Father.  Which means that nothing the world or the enemy can throw at me can harm me.  It may hurt me, but it will not harm me.

Pray this prayer over your children, your spouse, the people you really care about.   “Father, protect them by the power of your name.”

That’s a prayer he will answer, every time.

Oh, yea, a wonderful fringe benefit of this protection?  UNITY!!!
