Oh, Dear
May 2, 2010
We were walking through the woods today, trying to enjoy the great outdoors, and trying not to disturb the great outdoors any more than possible. Diane had taken 286 close-ups the various flora, some blooming, some not.
We were about two and a half hours into our three hour walk when a white-tail deer walked right up to us, within twenty yards or so. It was in some pretty tall grasses, so I couldn’t tell if it was a he or a she. There were no antlers, but this time of year, I would not expect any. It looked at us and then gamboled away in the same general directions we were heading, and disappeared over a small rise in the terrain.
We walked about fifty farther yards along, when suddenly, from behind a little bump in the ground, about big enough for an Indian burial ground, up popped the deer again.
Well Diane was trying to take some pictures, and this deer was disturbing her, so she pulled out her 9mm Beretta, which I didn’t even know she was carrying, and blew the thing away. Of course this meant I had to drag the darn thing all the way back to the car, and clean it before supper. What a mess that was.
So have you ever been in the middle of a story, or maybe a real life situation, and have it make a ninety degree turn in a direction you never anticipated? Life happens like that sometimes doesn’t it?
Sometimes it’s a job, sometimes its a friend, sometimes its an illness, and sometimes it is death Life and similar situations throw us curves sometimes. People are not always faithful. Jobs, careers even, can be capricious, because of course, they involve people. Our human condition leaves us vulnerable to the whims of wellness as well as illness. Upon whom can we count? Is there anyone or anything we can trust no matter what?
God. Yes! On him we can depend. He is the faithful one.
Psalm 33:4 For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.
Psalm 57:10 For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
Those are just two of hundreds of verses proclaiming God’s faithfulness. But as good as that is, maybe even better are the hundreds of thousands of every day examples that just the readers of this blog could come up with in just a few moments.
The Bills will continue to let us down, as will the Sabre’s and just about every other sports teams. Most people will at least once. I will, if I haven’t already. I’m sorry. All bosses will eventually, but God never will. Great is his faithfulness, morning by morning new mercies we see.
So be sure to take the time to thank him for that before you shut down your computer for the day.
I only shoot with a camera…..and I would NEVER EVER have a gun!!!!!!
Except for that….Oh ya!!
